Research Starter: Union or Secession? Conflicting Stands of Governors Call and Milton on the Eve of the Civil War

On the eve of the Civil War, former Florida governor General Richard Keith Call wrote a letter expressing his pro-Union, pro-Southern sentiments. John Milton, a proponent of secession, was elected Florida's fifth governor in 1860.
