Description

Program for the Florida War Recreation Conference, held October 22-24, 1942 at the Hotel George Washington in Jacksonville, Florida. Delegates from the various local defense councils in Florida attended, as well as members of community organizations performing related work. Wartime recreation was considered a vital aspect of maintaining morale for soldiers and civilians during World War II; this conference featured discussion sessions in which experts and local groups shared tips and experiences relating to this work. Examples of organizations attending the conference include the Marion County Chamber of Commerce, the American Red Cross, the National Recreation Association, the Dade County Community Chest, and the Miami Service Men's Center. The program is particularly useful as a guide to "who's who" in wartime recreation programs around Florida during World War II.
