Donelson, private secretary to President Andrew Jackson (and later the vice-presidential candidate of the Know-Nothing Party in 1856), Washington, stating that, having accepted appointment as Governor of Florida, his position as Brigadier General of the 1st Brigade of Florida Militia is now vacant, and recommending the appointment of Leigh Read to that post.
