Florida Folk Festival Programs

About this Audio

Established in 1979, the Florida Folklife Program (FFP) documents, presents and preserves Florida's thriving folklife and traditional culture.

Folklife includes the practices, traditional arts and communal knowledge disseminated within groups both orally and through example. It is through these folk expressions that different communities demonstrate their collective ideals of beauty and values.

These audio recordings represent the wide range of projects undertaken by the FFP to preserve the traditional arts and promote engagement with Florida's folk culture. This includes annual fieldwork surveys conducted by the state folklorist and interviews and performances by participants of the Folklife Apprenticeship Program, an initiative that facilitates the sharing of folk knowledge, skills, and techniques between tradition bearers and novices.
