Launched in Key West in 1939, it is the last sailing cable ship on earth and the last example of a traditional American coasting schooner made in the U.S.
Accompanying note: "Schooner 'Western Union' in her original configuration as a cable laying and repairing vessel. Shows boat docked at pier off of Brito's Boat Yard, which is now the Galleon condominiums and Marina located at the foot of Front Street in Key West, FL. Note the large wheel pulleys on her deck and bow."
