General Note
Accompanying note: "The Lake Munson Canoe (8LE5785) was exposed during a recent draw down of the lake. It is a prehistoric dugout canoe approximately 500 to 800 years old. It was made from a pine or cypress hollowed out by prehistoric inhabitants of the Fort Walton cultural period (1000 AD to 1450 AD) using fire and stone tools. Exhibiting a platform on either end, it is incredibly well preserved."
Carrying the canoe (clockwise from bottom left): Dave Dickel, James Levy, Barbara Hines from the Florida Public Archaeology Network (FPAN), Dan McClarnon, Ed Green, Ryan Wheeler, Mary Glowacki, Franklin Price, Lonnie Mann, Kellie Bowers, Kevin Porter and Paul Chamberlain. In the background at the far left is the Florida Bureau of Archaeological Research (BAR)'s Marie Prentice getting an early peek at the incredible find.
