- The 37,500 square foot facility, opened on October 29, 1990, showcases America's first astronauts from their early days as astronaut candidates through their historic missions during NASA's Mercury program. The U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame is also the home of U.S. Space Camp Florida, where visitors have a chance to experience hands-on astronaut training activities on equipment similar to that used by NASA. It is now (2009) known as Camp Kennedy Space Center.
