The MGM studios commissioned the Bounty's full and faithful reconstruction from the keel up in 1960 for the movie "Mutiny on the Bounty" with Marlon Brando. The Tall Ship Bounty Foundation acquired the ship as a donation from its previous owner, Ted Turner, in 1993. The Bounty made its home at The Pier in St. Petersburg every November-to-May until it tragically sank off the coast of North Carolina during Hurricane Sandy on 29 October 2012.
