Biographical Note
Incorporated during 1885 as the Tavares, Apopka and Gulf Railway Company, the company set about the ambitious project of building a line of road from Tavares, some 31 miles west of Orlando, to Punta Rassa, situated near the mouth of the Caloosahatchee River, on the lower west coast, near Fort Myers. As of 1949 the road is still in operation as a freight road, under the control of the Seaboard Air Line Railway, having two locomotives.
