These hollow iron balls were filled with gun powder and ignited through a wooden fuse. When fire burned down the wood to the powder the grenade exploded. This frequently took some time and sailors on the warring vessels tossed the grenades back and forth till they exploded. The museum, owned by treasure diver Arthur McKee, is located at Treasure Harbor, U.S.1, on Plantation Key, 5 miles south of Tavernier.
