Physical Description
General Note
Hugh Taylor Birch State Park was located on Highway A1A and East Sunrise Blvd., between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean, in Ft Lauderdale. The Florida Park Service acquired the park from the original landowner and South Florida winter resident Hugh Taylor Birch on 7 January 1943, when Birch passed away. Born in 1848, Birch first came to Florida in 1893, and began buying the property that would become the state park in 1903. In December 1941 he decided to will the land to the state upon his death.
