General Note

  • Lincoln Perry, playing servant Cicero, is on the right with Frank Morgan as Professor Eustace Appleby. The film starred Shirley Temple in the title role and was directed by William A. Seiter.

    Biography Note

  • Lincoln Theodore Monroe Andrew Perry (1902-1985) was better known by his stage name Stepin Fetchit. He was born in Key West and later moved to Tampa with his family. His screen persona is often cited as an example of unfavorable black stereotypes, although his popularity opened the door for many future black actors. He acted in 54 films, was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and a Special Image Award from the NAACP. In the 1960s he became a friend of heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali. He later died from pneumonia on November 19, 1985 at age 83.
