Becauses of the almost total absence of airports in the Caribbean, PAA drew up specifications for an amphibian type plane which could be used with equal facility on water or land. First delivered in October of 1928, the twin-engined Sikorsky S-38 carried eight passengers at a cruising speed of 105 miles an hour.
