General Note
Built in 1835 for Henry L. Rutgers, the home was constructed by George Proctor, a free black man who built a number of Tallahassee's finer homes. It was sold to Federal Judge Thomas Randall in 1850. In 1870 the house was sold to the banker George Lewis the I. It was later to become the home of C.B. Collins State Treasurer. Charles Ashenhard also lived here for many years until it was bought in the 1950s by Clifton Van Brunt Lewis. The house was remodeled in 1976.
Richard Parks began working at Evon Streetman Photography in Tallahassee ca. 1963. Streetman later sold the business and studio to Parks when she moved to Gainesville about 1965. The studio was renamed Richard Parks Photography.
Biographical Note
Photographer Evon Streetman, internationally known for her art/photography, began as a portrait photographer in Tallahassee and later moved to the University of Florida to teach. Streetman has been a Penland instructor for 40 years and has received a Florida individual artist grant and a National Endowment for the Arts grant.
