The Board initiated a midwife licensing program in 1931 to reduce infant mortality and to promote maternal and child health.
Accompanying note: "Big Cypress flooded and forced them out. Little Buck Cypress has hookworm advising his white friend to see a physician and get hookworm medicine."
Biographical Note
W. Stanley Hanson (1883-1945), dubbed "the White Medicine Man," was a trusted advisor to the Seminole-Miccosukee Indians from the early part of the 20th century until his death in 1945.
