Accompanying note: "Bernie Papy, former Dean of the Florida House of Representatives with 26 years of service, died at his home on the southern tip of Florida today after a lengthy bout with cancer. He was 62. Death came before Papy's uncontested election for a 14th term, this time without the seniority that made him one of the most colorful House deans in Florida history. During his two years out of office, Papy developed cancer. He was in a Key West hospital when he learned of his primary victory last May."
This picture was made August 2, 1962, when Papy closed his office in the capitol after a long special session of the legislature.
