Braulio Alonso was one of several school teacher representatives who told the House Public School Committee that a general pay raise for teachers should come before any merit plan is put into effect. In foreground is Representative George Stone, of Escambia County, also a teacher and member of the committee, who urged the lawmakers to act promptly as only three weeks remained in the current session.
