General Note
Myakka River State Park was opened in 1942. It covers approximately 58 square miles. Many of the facilities at Myakka River State Park were built in the 1930s by the men of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). The five historic log cabins were constructed with hand-hewn pine and oak, and with the trunks of cabbage palms, and then chinked with tar and sawdust.
