The Prinz Valdemar, a 241' steel hulled schooner, sank in the mouth of the turning basin of Miami harbor on January 10, 1926. Miami's harbor was closed for more than a month while 100 ships with 45 million board feet of lumber and other building materials awaited unloading. The Prinz Valdemar finally was righted and for years served as a landmark in the Miami harbor, being moored at Bayfront park and used for a time as an aquarium. The hulk was broken up in 1953.
