General Note
Construction of the mill began in 1936 and it opened in 1938. The mill consumes 2,000 cords per day with a daily production of 1,300 tons of kraft liner board. It employs 1,000 people.
An offshoot if the multi-million dollar Glidden Company plant adjacent to the mill. Glidden uses the crude soap skimmings which are a by-product of paper-making. The skimmings are processed into crude and distilled tall oil, mixed fatty acids and other chemicals whose end-products inlude Spirits, varnishes, printing inks, paper-coatings and linoleum.
