Went into service in the fall of 1972. Turkey Point generating plant in Dade county uses both fossil fuels and nuclear reactors to produce electric energy. A giant "radiator" of 38 canals, 164 miles of man-made waterways was designed to cool water from the plant and preserve the ecological balance of Biscayne Bay. The canal network is said to be the first of its kind in power plant water cooling systems.
