General Note
The culvert is being built under a levee. These culverts will carry water draining from the surrounding country through the levee to the lake. The pipes are 10' in diameter and will have automatic gates.
In 1949 the Florida Legislature created the Central and Southern Florida Flood Control District, the predecessor to the South Florida Water Management District, and consolidated the Everglades Drainage District and the Okeechobee Flood Control District under this.
