Description

City commissioner and vice-mayor Catherine E. Strong writes to Governor LeRoy Collins, relating the latest in a series of events stemming from a dispute between whites and African Americans living in Delray Beach. Following an attempt by African American citizens of Delray Beach to integrate the municipal beaches, four members of the city commission voted to remove the African American section of Delray Beach from the boundaries of the municipality, despite the fact that those neighborhoods were actually surrounded by other parts of the city. Strong describes the political situation in detail and asks Collins to veto any effort to exclude the African American neighborhoods from the limits of Delray Beach.
