Founded in 1936 by Dick and Julie Pope, Cypress Gardens was the state's first theme park.
Accompanying note: "'Island in the Sky' is a landscaped tropical island surrounded by water which will lift 100 visitors at a time to a viewing height of 150 feet above Cypress Gardens. It will make three consecutive revolutions, giving guests a 360-degree panoramic view of Cypress Gardens' floral wonderland and surrounding lake and citrus district."
Island in the Sky opened in 1983, it was later renamed the Sunshine Sky Adventure.
