Accompanying note: "Army Air Corps officials visited Sarasota in late 1941 and early 1942 to evaluate the possibility of establishing an air base at the Sarasota-Bradenton Airport. Sarasota Army Air Field was leased to the Army Air Corps by the Sarasota-Manatee Joint Airport Authority in February 1942. The entire base was later turned back over to civilian use in 1946."
