Biographical Note
Born at Russell's Landing on the Apalachicola River, Franklin County, March 29, 1874.
Last owner/operator of the "J.W. Callahan, Jr.," "Flint" work boat, and two large barges that plied the Apalachicola, Flint, and Chattahoochee Rivers.
Served as second mate under Captain Barror on the "Tarpon" and drowned when she went down in the 1937 hurricane.
Later worked for the U.S. Engineers in Georgia, Florida, and Alabama.
