Accompanying note: "Costing $900,000 in total, the Davis Causeway was opened on January 28, 1934 with a 25 cents toll per car. At the time of its completion, the Davis Causeway was the longest over-water fill across an open body of water in the United States. In 1948 it was renamed the Courtney Campbell Parkway (or Causeway)."

The Courtney Campbell Parkway originally opened in June 1934 as the Ben T. Davis Causeway, named for the Texas engineer who designed and helped finance it. In 1948, the Pinellas County Commission renamed the route in honor of Courtney Campbell, a member of the State Road Board who was instrumental in obtaining funding for beautification projects along either side. The road was officially dedicated as the "Courtney Campbell Parkway," although it is frequently called the "Courtney Campbell Causeway" in newspapers, official maps and other documents.
