Biographical Note
Spessard Holland was born in Bartow, Florida on July 10, 1892. Graduated from Emory College in 1912 and then from the University of Florida College of Law in 1916. During the First World War Holland volunteered for service and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Coast Artillery Corps, afterward he served in the Army Air Service in France 1918. He was a member of the Florida State Senate 1932-1940. Served as Governor of Florida from 1941 until 1945. Served as a member of the U.S. Senate from September 25, 1946 until January 2, 1971. He died on November 6, 1971.
