Originating in 1956, the Pine Tree Festival (later called the Florida Forest Festival) began as an educational resource to share the story of Florida's forestry heritage, fire safety, and the prevalence of the timber industry in Taylor County and the surrounding region.
Accompanying note: "A crowd estimated at above 25,000 turned out here Saturday to celebrate the 8th annual Pine Tree Festival and stake a claim to this County's title of 'Pine Tree Capital of Florida.'"
