Tallahassee Hook and Ladder Comapny (No. 1) and the Tallahassee Vigilant Fire Company would have responded to the fire.
The hotel was located on the west side of Adams St. between Pensacola and Lafayette streets. It was built by Thomas Brown (afterwards Governor) as Brown's Inn in 1834. It was known as The City Hotel (1839) and The Adelphi (1840). Thomas Brown's daughter, Mary Archer, operated the establishment as the City Hotel from 1870 to about 1874, when it was taken over by Tallahassee merchant William P. Slusser. It later became the Morgan Hotel (named changed in September 1884) and was destroyed by fire in 1886.
