Accompanying note: "HURRICANE HUNTERS RETURN - The Florida State Seminoles got a rousing welcome home Saturday, after taking the wind out of Miami's highly-touted Hurricanes 24-0. Hundreds of students were on hand to meet the FSU plane. Many of them - looking forward to this week's first home game of the new season - were shouting 'Beat TCU, Beat TCU' as team members filtered through the crowd."
Biographical Note
Bill Peterson was named the head football coach at Florida State in December 1959, and coached there through 1970. Peterson would become the first Seminole coach to beat the University of Florida, a 16-7 win at Doak Campbell Stadium. Peterson would also coach the Seminoles to their first win ever at Florida Field. Under Peterson, Fred Biletnikoff would become the Seminoles first All-American. Peterson also recruited the Seminoles first black football players, including J.T. Thomas, the first black to ever play varsity football at FSU.
