Baldwin, E. Fla.
Nov. 30th 1864
Miss Bardin
My Dear Mattie, I seat myself to write you a few lines as I have an opportunity of sending it by Ozias Johns. I written some days ago and sent by mail, but not knowing when you will get it I take this opportunity of informing you that I am still in the land of the living. I cannot brag of my health, as I have an occasional chill and fever. I hope these may reach you enjoying the best of health that this life can afford. I have no very interesting news to write you at the present time. We had been reinforced with too Cavalry Cos last week from Georgia of Hood's Battallion, but we did not keep them with us long. They were ordered back to Geo. last night and it is the opinion of a great many that

our Regiment will be ordered there, but I do not think so. It appears that Sherman is cutting quite a swell in Georgia, amking pretence as though he intended to make us all take to our holes befor spring, but it is to be hoped that he will meet up with a disappointment.
One of our Scouts of Co. E, Jefcoat by name, had his left hand shot of a few days ago, by a deserter he says, but it is the the general opinion that he did it himself to get out of the army. Dear Mattie I want to see you very much, but I don't know when I shall have an opportunity of so doing. I have been sick and on the sick report so much that I could not get there on pickett, but as I hope to be off of that list before long I will try to get on some sort of a detail going that way soon. I am your most
Affectionate & Devoted Lover,
A.S. Chalker
