Beatles being escorted from the George Washington Hotel to the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville.
Discrimination in public accommodations
The band did not book rooms at the George Washington Hotel in protest of the hotel's segregation policy but held their press conference there. Furthermore, they had refused to perform at the Gator Bowl until they were assured that the audience would not be segregated by race at the concert. Note George Harrison in the foreground at the left and Paul McCartney behind him at the left.
Due to the varying resolutions of items in the Digital Collection, scans and prints may need to be resampled in order to achieve the desired size and resolution. Please contact the State Archives Photographic collection at 850-245-6718 with questions or concerns.
