Maria Lorts Sachs, D-Delray Beach and Eleanor Sobel, D-Hollywood, (standing) got support from Vicky Gaetz, wife of Senate President Don Gaetz, R-Niceville, for legislation that would effectively eliminate greyhound racing. Sobel (red suit) sponsored a bill requiring dog tracks to report all injuries and deaths of racing dogs, while Sachs sponsored a bill in 2014 to 'decouple' cardrooms and slot machine operations from dog racing -- thus allowing tracks to stop the costly races, while keeping their other gambling operations. The Senate president's wife, an animal lover, turned out at a news conference on April 8, 2014, to show her support and greet some 'rescue dog' owners who adopted retired greyhounds."
