General Note

  • Accompanying note: "The Raynes tree was one of 5 five year old seedlings sent to the superintendant of cemeteries in Tallahassee. The evidence is conflicting as to whether all five trees were first planted in the old city cemetery, but this one was planted/transplanted November 15, 1906, by William H. Raynes, at his home on Miccosukee Road near the present Sunland center. The other four original trees did not survive, and the Raynes tree died in 1940, after being moved a few feet to make way for the access road to the hospital from Mahan Drive."
