Built of coquina rock in 1925, the tower had a lecture room in its base with storeroom, drafting room, and a lookout above. Originally built with two arches, one was removed during the widening of International Speedway Boulevard. The Tarragona Tower was later added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.
Accompanying note: "Tarragona Tower, Medieval entrance to Daytona Highlands, Daytona Beach, Florida. Florida's suburb of hills and lakes".
