Wyldewood was opened as a tropical attraction by Commodore A.H. Brook in 1920.
Accompanying note: "Broward County's beauty spot, Indicus Ficus Banyan. One of the most interesting and remarkable trees in the United States, native of the tropics, the seed perhaps carried by some wild bird migrating North, depositing the seed in the top of the Live Oak, it has grown to the ground and enveloped the great oak with its tenacles. It will be a question of time before it will destroy the giant of the forest. Once used as a rendevous for the Seminole tribe of this section, the tree was known from Big Cypress to the Coast and important meetings of the Indians were held here. Wyldewood Tropical Nurseries".
