Accompanying note: "Tallahassee Democrat sports editor Bill McGrotha, left, joins legendary Florida A&M [Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University] football coach Jake Gaither on Gaither's 88th birthday in 1991. Gaither coached the FAMU Rattlers from 1945 to 1969, winning 203 games and seven black college football championships. Gaither died at age 90 in 1994. McGrotha was Democrat sports editor from 1953 until his death in 1993."
