General Note
Anti-Americanism was pervasive throughout Latin American during the 1960s. This expression of anti-Americanism came amidst rumors of U.S. intervention in the Dominican Republic. In April 1965, the U.S. became involved in efforts to install a pro-American, anti-communist government in the Dominican Republic. The U.S. has a long history of intervention in the island nation, dating back to an occupation lasting from 1916 to 1924. The U.S. supported the Dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo from 1924 until 1961, when the CIA participated in his assassination.
Note written on the walkway: "12 de Julio Go Home Yankys BRUG".
