General Note
The 23,000 square feet Federal building opened in 1933 as a United States Post Office. It was converted into a federal courthouse in the 1960s and vacated in 1998 after a new courthouse was built nearby. Later became the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center in 2003. It was also known as the George W. Whitehurst Federal Building and United States Courthouse after a Senate Bill 552 became Public Law No. 98-148 in 1983.
The district, roughly bounded by Bay and Lee Sts., Anderson Ave. and Monroe St., was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.
