Description

  • Four proof sheets with 75 black and white images (plus negatives). Between 1952 and 1959, the Suwannee River Jamboree radio show -- broadcast from Live Oak, Florida on WNER -- was Florida's largest and best known country music show. It was broadcast live three hours every Saturday night, with 30-minute versions syndicated across the Southeast. The show featured many North Florida and Southeast acts such as the Stanley Brothers. The concert in these images was held in 1984 as a celebration and reunion of the radio series, and included several local bluegrass bands. A second jamboree was held the follwing year (see S 1627, Box 5). Images include the Suwannee River Fire Band; The Dixie Jubilees; Big Timber Bluegrass; and Aubrey Fowler. There are also many copies of images from the 1950s radio show. For more images of the 1984 event, see S 1577, v. 27, slides S85-1311 - S85-1330.
