Governor Jeb Bush appointed Orlando Mayor Glenda E. Hood as Secretary of State effective February 2003. Prior to her appointment as Secretary of State, Glenda E. Hood was elected the first female Mayor of the City of Orlando in 1992 and served three terms.
Before becoming Mayor in 1992, Secretary Hood served as an Orlando City Council member and was president of her own public relations firm. She has served as president of the National League of Cities, the Florida League of Cities and the Florida Chamber of Commerce.
An Orlando native and fourth generation Floridian, Secretary Hood graduated from Orlando's Oak Ridge High School and Rollins College, where she obtained a bachelor's degree in Spanish. She has also completed the Executive Program at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government.
