General Note
The Courtney Campbell Parkway originally opened in June 1934 as the Ben T. Davis Causeway, named for the Texas engineer who designed and helped finance it. In 1948, the Pinellas County Commission renamed the route in honor of Courtney Campbell, a member of the State Road Board who was instrumental in obtaining funding for beautification projects along either side. The road was officially dedicated as the "Courtney Campbell Parkway," although it is frequently called the "Courtney Campbell Causeway" in newspapers, official maps and other documents.
Accompanying note "Courtney Campbell Parkway connects Tampa and Clearwater, Fla. At intervals bridges span the beautiful Tampa Bay. All along this parkway are picnicking areas for the employment of residents and tourists. Fishing along this Parkway is one of the favorite sports.
