General Note
The Banyan is Florida's most remarkable tree which sprouts even from a seed dropped by a bird on the limb of some other variety of tree, as roots will descend to the soil. In time it kills the trees on which it grew. As the branches develop, they grow downward and take roots as they touch the ground. Some of these trees grow to very large proportions.
