General Note
Born in Mobile in 1842 as the son of Matilda Alexander and James McKay of Thurso, Scotland. The family came to Tampa in 1846. He handled McKay lone of ships until the railroad came to Tampa in 1884. He assumed command of the steamer "Mascotte" for H.B. Plant until 1894 when he became U.S. Marshall for the southern district of Florida. He became Mayor of Tampa in 1902 and died September 5, 1925.
