Note from sleeve: Born at Fernandina Beach January 13, 1945; graduated from Yulee High School. Entered service at Coral Gables March 1, 1967. Did basic [training] at Ft. Benning, Ga., assigned to 3rd Training Brigade and sent to Vietnam as a replacement in Company C, 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry, 25th Division, in September 1967. On a combat mission near Gia Dinh, he provided machinegun cover for his company until mortally wounded, saving the lives of at least 9 members of his unit. Interred at Fort Denaud Cemetery, Fort Denaud.
