Northeast Fort Lauderdale. Middle River on west edge of photo running north and south. Intercostal waterway running north and south in center of photo. What would become Hugh Taylor Birch State Park is also in the center. Coral Ridge development between the two waterways.
South Florida winter resident Hugh Taylor Birch on 7 January 1943, when Birch passed away. Born in 1848, Birch first came to Florida in 1893, and began buying the property that would become the state park in 1903. In December 1941 he decided to will the land to the state upon his death.
