On Sleeve: 27th Governor. Jan. 5, 1937-Jan 7, 1941. Born at Benton in Columbia County Sept. 28, 1871. Son of Wm. H. and Sarah Emily (Branch) Cone. Attended Florida Agricultural College and Jasper Normal College. Admitted to the bar in 1892 and practiced in Lake City. A State Senator 1907-1913, and Senate President in 1911. Defeated for US Senate in 1940. Returned to Lake City where he died July 28, 1948.
