General Note
Born on February 2, 1933, in Atlanta, Georgia. Received a B.S. degree in chemistry and biology in 1954 from St. Mary's Seminary in Penndel, Pennsylvania. Taught Latin and biology at Marist College before joining the FBI in 1961. Stationed in Atlanta and Puerto Rico before being transferred to Miami in 1968. Married Sandra Sutton in 1970. He was shot and killed in the line of duty, along with partner Special Agent Jerry Dove, during the "FBI Miami Firefight" on April 11, 1986 with two bank robber/killers (William R. Matix and Michael Lee Platt). The names of Benjamin Grogan and Jerry Dove are inscribed (West Wall, Panel 58, Lines 8 & 9) on the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, D.C.
