Horseshoe School began on the North Thomasville Road property of Reverend Willie Witherspoon, a black landowner. The one-room schoolhouse was for children in grades one through eight. After the building was destroyed by fire, classes were held in Horseshoe Church until the nearby Lake McBride School was built. The church eventually sold and moved to its current location on the Bradfordville Baptist Church site.
